Users Guide
The EU training and learning platform complements the associated EU Trainers Manual for guardians of unaccompanied children. It is a supporting tool and resource for trainers and students enrolled in the training programme and is open to the public to support acting and prospective guardians throughout the European Union in promoting the rights and the best interests of children.
How to navigate on the EU training and learning platform for guardians of unaccompanied children?
1) Main menu
You can find the main menu at the left side of the platform. When enrolled in one of the training sessions, you can always return to the site home by clicking on its icon on the main menu.
2) Home of the course: welcome, introduction and access to the course features
The site home hosts the welcome and introduction to the platform and provides information on the background, purpose and scope of this online training and learning programme. From here, you can access the following features:
- Video introduction and welcome to the course:
Guardy welcomes you to the course. The virtual character will guide you throughout the training programme. In each session, Guardy will introduce the session and make a presentation on some of the key themes of the session.
- The chapters and training sessions:
The EU training and learning programme consist of ten consecutive sessions, structured in four chapters. We recommend to follow the sequence of the sessions as proposed by the training programme, as the sessions build upon each other and gradually develop the learning content.
- The glossary:
The glossary offers an overview of key terms and definitions that will be useful for your participation in the training. The definitions are rooted in international and European standards.
- The Guardianship Wheels:
The Guardianship Wheels are an interactive online resource centre for guardianship training in the EU. They complement the training and learning process with supporting material and additional information.
3) Training and learning

The EU training and learning programme consists of four chapters and ten sessions, which follow a standardised structure.
Getting started:
From the site home, you can access all chapters and training sessions.
Click on “Chapter 1” to get started. Find out about the main objectives of the Chapter and its sessions before starting with the first training session.
Navigating within the sessions:
Each session is composed of pages, which are numbered to facilitate orientation.
Clicking on the arrow at the bottom right of the page, you will move to the next page. In this way, you will follow the course step-by-step and are guided through all activities of the session.
While enrolled in a session, you have the possibility to go back to the previous page by clicking on the arrow at the bottom left.
If you wish to jump to a different page or another session within the same chapter, you can use the drop down menu at the bottom centre of the page and choose to jump to the page of your choice.
Concluding
a session:
At the end of each session, you will be asked to choose your next step:
- proceed to the next session or chapter;
- return to the home of the course; or
- go to the Guardianship Wheels.
